The research began in the context of NCAA Division I intercollegiate athletics and higher education and has evolved to examine the pursuit of expertise in music, dance, surgery, theatre, and other high pressure performance environments. Discover how the environment, organizational, and governance structures in which individuals operate impact their potential for ascension and elite performance. We delve into the organizational structures and governance of intercollegiate athletics and higher education and how the organizational structures shape athlete, employee, and fan experience.
Through this line of research we explore the direct and transferrable knowledge, skills, attributes, and other characteristics (KSAOs) acquired through expertise development. The majority of studies are centered in the expertise development context of NCAA Intercollegiate Athletics.


















This research highlights the interconnectedness of physical, psychological, and social well-being among high performers. This holistic approach to well-being and performance can serve as a valuable framework for individuals and organizations striving for long-term success and fulfillment.
Through this research we uncover insights into the dynamics of social injustice and power within the context of elite performance and how these elements influence the pursuit of expertise and ascension.
